TAMARON COLLIES

Tamaron Collies now has 61 champions. Our latest homebred champion , Ch Tamaron's Island Breeze (Breeze, daughter of Landon), finished at 10 months with 6 breed wins.

We are a family operation established in 1988 under the direction of Trudy Taphorn. Located 3/4 hour's drive northwest of Edmonton (Alberta, Canada), Tamaron was named Top Breeder of Rough Collies in Canada in 1992, 1999, and 2000. To date, our Collies have garnered 61 homebred champions, including the 1996 CCC National (BOS in Specialty, BW and BP), 1997 CCC National (Best in Specialty), 2004 CCC National (WB), and the 2006 CCC National (BW and BP in Specialty), 2 international titles, 1 multi Specialty winning Australian Champion, 11 obedience titles, 4 Herding Instinct titles, and 6 co-bred champions. We hope this web site helps to answer your questions about us and our dogs. We have tried to provide information specific to us, as well as to the breed to help out those not familiar with Rough and Smooth Collies.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Wednesday, April 16:

We have puppies!!! Celine had a gorgeous litter of 4 on April 12th. There are 2 blue girls and 2 tri boys. I have co-bred this litter with Carol so I guess we will both be keeping a blue girl and a tri boy! If the tri boy I am taking turns out, he is already promised to a show home in Smithers, BC and the blue girl I choose will be staying here. Now if only there had been a tri girl to breed to my sable merle smooth male Kennedy...............
Speaking of which, Jasmine (Ch. Blossom Hill Tamaron's Promise) has now been bred to Kennedy and if she caught, puppies are due the middle of June. I am VERY excited about this litter! Kennedy's dad is Jasmine's almost full brother Edge (Ch. Blossom Hill Cutting Edge) so this breeding will really tighten up on the beautiful heads from the Blossom Hill pedigree.

On the show scene, I finished Fallon (Ch. Tamaron's Heartfelt) the first weekend in April at the Red Deer shows. She was BW one day and BW, BB the last day to finish. She also made the cut in a large Herding group. The next weekend, I took Blush (Tamaron's Caught in the Act) to a set of shows and she was WB, BOS over a Special the first day and BW, BB over a Special and Group 3 the second day to put her on 6 points. Everyone is starting to dump coat so this coming weekend will probably be my last weekend showing collies for awhile. I will have fun with just my Whippet for a couple months!

Monday, March 24:

After 24 hours of pretty much straight driving, I am home from the CCA in Wisconsin! The long drive to and from was worth every single minute as I did unbelievably well there! I took 3 dogs and either won or placed in the classes with all three! First up was Kennedy (Ch. Tamaron The Real Deal) who was in the 12-18 month class in smooth dogs. He won the class and was then one of three pulled for consideration for Winners out of a total of 46 males. Judging by the number of handlers, breeders and judges who told me after that he was a stunning male, I felt like I had gone Winners anyway! The recognition he got from my peers was truly amazing.

Next up was Blush (Tamaron's Caught in the Act) who was in the 12-18 month rough bitch class. It was a huge clas of 24 and when all was said and done, Blush WON THE CLASS!!!! She showed like a veteran and never let me down. After the show 2 weeks before the National when she wouldn't put all 4 feet on the ground at one time, I couldn't believe how she showed. What an exciting win that was!!!!!!

Then, on Friday, I showed Jasmine (Ch. Blossom Hill Tamaron's Promise) in the Open Sable rough bitch calss where out of a huge entry of 27, she placed 4th!!!!!!

At some point during the Foundation dinner on Thursday night, Kennedy decided he was jealous of Blush's 1st place ribbon so he took it down and tried to destroy it! He left the other one alone so I guess he thought he would eat hers and leave his intact! Thanks to Gabe and Luisa Diaz who saved the ribbon from total destruction! Must be a case of sibling rivalry!!!

Kelly Anthony came with me and I was so glad she was there to watch the Tamaron dogs do so well at the National. I think she thought it was worth the long drive, too! We are already planning for Springfield next year!!!

Tuesday, March 11:

We traveled to a show in northern Saskatchewan this last week-end. I took Jill, my whippet girl, Blush, a sable rough girl and also took Giorgio, a tri rough male who is 11 months old (actually, he's a year today!). Giorgio was only in our National last October where he was RWD. I wanted him in one all-breed show before he turned a year. This one is 6 shows in the 3 days so there was the possibility of finishing him in the one weekend. He showed like a seasoned show dog, never let me down and ended up getting all 6 Best of Breeds, a group 1, a group 2, 2 Best Puppy in Group and a Best Puppy in Show!!!!!!! So, he finished and then some! Giorgio's group winning judge was Jan Buchanan who also gave him Best Puppy in Show the next day and the group 2 judge was Merlin VanderKinder. Giorgio is now Ch. Tamaron's Haute Couture.

Blush (Tamaron's Caught In The Act) is a 16 month old bitch that has not been shown but I am taking her to the CCA in Wisconsin next week and decided she needed some ring time. I only put her in three of the shows and she was WB twice. Blush has been sitting at home while her smooth brother Kennedy (Ch. Tamaron The Real Deal) was shown (he won the Smooth Variety at our National at 11 months of age) and also her smooth sister Flirt (Tamaron's Out All Night) who was RWB smooth at the National and her rough look a-like sister Fallon (Tamaron's Hearfelt) who was RWB rough at the National. Fallon and Flirt now each have 7 points so it was time to bring Blush out.

My little whippet girl Jill, was not to be outdone by her playmates so she proceeded to win 4 group 1's, a group 3 and 2 BEST IN SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are her first BIS so there were a few tears after the first one, I must admit!! Tom Alexander was the first BIS judge and Walter Pinsker was the second one.

Needless to say that weekend was the weekend of all weekends for me!! Only winning so much at our National last year could even come close!

For those of yoiu going to the National in Wisconsin, please come by and say hi!!!

Celine has been bred a second time. Now we just wait and hold our breath that she takes. I will also be praying to the Color Gods for a blue girl and a tri girl! Oh, yes and a tri male and maybe a blue male!! Actually 2 of each would be great! That's not asking too much , is it......?

Saturday, February 9:

I just spoke with Carol and Celine has been bred for the first time tonight! She will be bred again tomorrow night and then probably once more if Celine is keen on the idea! We are very excited about this litter, especially if we can get some blue girls that look like Elijah.
It is so cold here- it was -40 this morning! No one stays outside for long- my poor whippet girl Jill almost does her business on the run when it is this cold.
